Hi All
I raced at your track for the STCC and am from Milton Keynes.
We are finally getting closer to getting our outdoor track re-built after a number of years without it.
To cut a long story short I've been tasked with trying to find out what type of surface has been used at some of the different tracks club members have raced at that has had good grip without being too harsh on tyres.
I seem to remember that Colchester was one such track
So who would be the best person to ask about the track construction and type of surface?
Any help would be very greatfully recieved.

Hi Ade,if i remember correctly it was called '8mm open grain' or something similar.
We had 6 inchs of road chippings as a foundation and then the top surface was about 2 inches thick. If you can picture the mounds that run around our track, that was all what was scrapped off the surface in preparation.
Dont know if you've done your budgets yet but ours is 40m x 28.5m and cost us £24k.
The co. that did it are called 'Shairwood Contracts'(01255 830704) and are local to Colchester, they may remember what they laid for us if you contact them.

Hi Paul
Thats great thankyou very much!
I'm basically trying to gather info at the moment of the tracks that a number of us liked the surface at.
I'll make a note of your number and if I need anymore details down the line I'll be in touch.
If everything goes well we are hoping to try and get the track useable for next summer but we'll have to see how that goes.
