Heres the Stcc report then.
Picked Dave up at 4.20 Saturday afternoon, the Gazeebo of Lurv was packed and the sun was shining.Dave as usual looking forward to my driving all the way to Hampshire.
Cut a long story short we got a wriggle on,got cut up by some birds in a golf just outside Southampton ,got to the track at 6.45 and that included getting petrol,(works out to 70mph average so we were cracking-on).Oh and Dave didnt realise there were 'wild' horses in the New Forest .
Had a few laps of practice straight away and car felt good, looking at the times that were listed i did the 6th quickest time set in the previous hour.Dave also had a go and liked the 'testing' track.
Went down the local Co-op for supplies: Beer, crisps, cakes, cider.
Back to track, set up the Gazeebo of Lurv and then walked the 3-400yds down the lane to the Pub,arrival time 8.15pm. Departure time 12pm,after a couple 'for the road'.The local inhabitants had given us some funny entertainment throughout the evening,i'll let Dave describe:he has a way with words.
Race day: A little tender from the night before but we got going.
1st rnd quali and off to a blinder,at the first placings at about 1min i had already made up a couple of places in time and then the dreaded stone in the spurgear happened and stripped it .
2nd rnd and had a few moments with other cars but set an ok time 20.304.6 leaving me 2nd or 3rd in B.
3rd round and again had a good run but i think Ricky Copsey is related to Papa Woods,i just could not find a way past him even though i felt quicker around most of the lap.Improved my time but only by 1/2 a second and it actually dropped me down 2 places so ended up 4th in B.Drove ok and the car was good, but it was just one of those days when i didnt get a 'clear' run.
Finals.
Leg 1 had a demon start and pretty much led from lap 2 til the end of the race.
Leg 2 and made the fatal mistake of changing just 1 tyre, the front left was badly worn, and the car was practically undriveable.Young Ben from Coastal had a good run and won leg 2,i came 10th.We had been pitting with them all day and had a good time.
Leg 3 and still all to play for.
Had a good start and then on the 3rd corner crash, bang, wallop, just about everyone had a piece of me and i was last-ish. Got the bit between my teeth,i'd put new boots on so car was good, and i went after them.It took me 4 minutes to get to 3rd and i was closing in on the front 2 local boys. Made it to 2nd and then,if i do say so myself,i pulled a couple of slick moves to take the lead with about 30secs to go.So onto the last lap and lapping another car, crunch and put on my roof,no names mentioned-he didnt realise i was leading-nevermind-apology accepted, all my hard work down the pan and finished 3rd.
Which left me in 3rd overall.
Dave may put his story on here but he ended up 3rd in C,drove well in finals.
Trip home was not as smooth as going, traffic on M3,but we did see Michael Gambon in his black Audi R8,and 10miles of stop/start on M25 near Heathrow.Got home at 8.20.Knackered. |
