off road car: Quanum Vandal

Hi, my name is James

Just starting to get in RC car and after playing in parks and stuff with it I am interested in having a go at some racing and as I am in Braintree you are my local club...

Currently I have a Quanum Vandal Kit which I am playing around with on a brushless setup, probably far from ideal as a racing chassis I would imagine.

But I know next to nothing about racing what you guys do, what gear you use, and how you do it etc.. but can imaging a park basher is not up to par to keep with you peeps.

I have been looking at the BRCA rules for off-roading 1/10 class, something I assume all clubs adhere to, before I even start I see that my car Is currently too heavy so it needs to go on a diet anyway..

Also licence, is this necessary at entry level or is it required at all levels to participate...

Any help for a Noob getting started, would be greatly appreciated...

Hi, and welcome

My suggestion to you would be to come down with your car and take a look for yourself.
The Quantum Vandal is not a bad car for a novice.  If you you run in the Juniors/Novice class it is run on smooth tarmac and is open to all classes of cars.

we are there most Sundays.

Hi James, Welcome to CMCC
Well firstly, the car you currently have looks like its perfectly suitable to get you going. Don't worry so much about the weight or speed the first skill to learn is sticking within a tracks boundaries, sounds simple but is quite a bit trickier than the car park. You can visit/race with us for 3 occasions as a 'guest' before you would need to join the BRCA for insurance purposes.
So all that being said the best thing you could do is pop down to us, with your gear, have a good old chat and check us all out. We're a friendly bunch with lots of years experience so we should be able to answer any other questions you may have.
Our next meeting is this Sunday(5th October) from about 8.45am-1pm ish.

Regards Paul.
