23/03/2014 - CMCC INDOOR WINTER SERIES ROUND 12

Round 12 was the last round of the CMCC Winter Series and with Championship places still up for grabs in all the classes and 31 drivers booked in, the competition was going to be tough!

QUALIFYING

1:10 Touring Cars
7 on-road drivers booked in to battle it out for touring car honours in round 12 and they were all running in one qualifying heat. After round 1 it was Franck Dambrine drifting around on nearly bald tyres that took the win ahead of Michael Syrett in second and Don Apps in third. With Franck unable to improve in Round 2, it was Ryk Pryke who topped the time sheets with Franck now in second and Michael, making a 4 second improvement, in third. Ryk took the round 3 win setting FTQ with 35 laps 307.73. Michael Syrett closed to within 1 second of Franck but would have to settle for third with 33 / 306.34 behind Franck in second on 33 / 305.31. Don Apps improved his time in round 3 to 31 / 300.61 to secure fourth place ahead of Vince Graver in fifth who was just 2 seconds ahead of Darren Evans in sixth.

Micro Buggies
There was one heat of micro buggies being run at round 12 and there was no stopping Graham Kisby who took all three round wins and the overall FTQ with 31 laps 306.09. Second place qualifier was David Brazington who knew that a solid score at this round would secure him the overall micro buggy championship win. One lap back in third place was Ashley Roat on 27 / 300.09 who was one lap up on Matthieu Dambrine in fourth. Tobie Manser was running his bright pink mini bodyshell (which looks good but struggles to get over the jump due to ground clearance!) and he ended qualifying in fifth place with 19 / 313.00

Junior/Novice
Matthieu Dambrine, running his micro buggy, set the fastest time in round 1 of the junior class ahead of Charlie Pryke's touring car in second and Liam Fenn's mini in third. Charlie came back strongly in round 2 setting a new fastest time ahead of Matthieu in second and Emma Bellinger running strongly in third. The third round saw Charlie, Matthieu and Adam Scholz all improve their times with Charlie taking the pole on 19 / 213.76 ahead of Matthieu in second on 18 / 210.89. Adam was the big mover of the round jumping up from sixth to third after breaking the rear wishbone of his Yokomo buggy in rounds 1 & 2 and having to swap over to his touring car for the last round! Fourth place went to Emma Bellinger on 13 / 212.55 who just held off the strong challenge of Liam Fenn in fifth on 13 laps 213.93. Dexter Manser - also on 13 laps - finished qualifying in sixth ahead of young Theo Dambrine who managed 7 laps.

1:10 Buggies
James Crockart started the 1:10 buggy qualifying strongly - putting down the only 33 lap qualifier of the first round ahead of Neil Parrott and Kristian Gibbs who both scored 32 laps. Round 2 saw the same three protaganists duking it out for the top spot with Kristian now topping the time sheets on 33 / 303.31. In the third and final round Kristian upped the ante scoring the
first and only 34 lap run in the 1:10 buggy class and securing pole for the Off-Road A final. James Crockart couldn't improve on his round 1 best time, but would still line up in second with Neil Parrott in third on 32 / 300.98. The A & B final line-ups were jinked about (explained below) but the driver setting the fourth fastest time of the day (and fastest 2WD) was Andy East on 32 / 306.23, one lap up on Anthony French in fifth and Paul Bellinger in sixth. Ben Chester qualified seventh pippping Matt Sadler into eighth by just over a second, followed by Kevin Fenn and Justin Hayes who rounded out the top 10.

FINALS

1:10 Touring Cars A final
Ryk Pryke got away cleanly from pole position, but was put under some early pressure by Michael Syrett who had started well from third on the grid. Vince Graver was another big mover at the start of the race and was circulating in third place until an incident on lap 6 dropped him back down the order. Don Apps was racing well and got past Franck Dambrine on lap 13 to hold third position. At the half way point of the final Ryk had managed to get through the traffic and pull a lead over Michael in second who had a lap advantage over the battle for third between Don and Franck. With 21 laps gone Franck managed to get past Don and back into third spot. A lap later Vince Graver moved past Darren Evans for fifth spot only to be re-taken 4 laps later by Darren who held onto fifth to the end of the race. Ryk took the win with 34 / 307.23 from Michael in second on 31 /303.01. Franck finished in third with 30 laps, 4 seconds up on Don in fourth. Darren finished in fifth with 29 / 308.30 with Vince in sixth on 28 laps.

Micro Buggies A final
The micro buggy racing throughout the championship has been very entertaining to watch and report on, so thanks to all the drivers involved. Unfortunately, the last one of the year lacked a little bit of drama! Graham Kisby got away well from pole and pumped in some very consistent 9 second laps pulling away from second place man David Brazington who was driving a conservative race to consolidate his points score for the championship. Third placed qualifier Ashley Roat couldn't quite find the speed he has shown at previous rounds and circulated in third with Matthieu Dambrine holding station in fourth ahead of Tobie Manser and his mini bodied buggy in fifth. The order remained the same to the end of the race with Graham securing his fourth top qualifier and A final win in a row. David came home in second knowing he had done enough to take the micro buggy championship win with Ashley rounding out the top 3 - cementing his finishing spot of third in the Championship. Matthieu brought his buggy home in fourth followed by Tobie in fifth.

Junior/Novice A final
The juniors put on a great show in their final race of the series. Over the opening laps there was some jockeying for position with first Mattheiu Dambrine and then Adam Scholz finding their way past pole sitter Charlie Pryke. Adam was looking confident with his touring car chassis and passed Mattheiu for the lead on lap 4. Emma Bellinger was putting in another
good performance in fourth and managed to pull a slight gap to Liam Fenn in fifth. Unfortunately, due (i think) to a transponder error Dexter Manser's lap times weren't counting and Theo Dambrine was classified as running sixth. At the half way point Adam was holding station in first with a small lead over Mattheiu in second and Charlie in third. Disaster struck for Matt on lap 10 with what looked like a drivetrain failure and he was forced to
make an early retirement the following lap. This allowed Charlie up into second and Emma up into third. Charlie tried hard to close the gap on the lead car but Adam maintained good speed, putting in consistent lap times right to the flag and took a well deserved win from Charlie in second, Emma in third & Liam in fourth. Matthieu was classified fifth ahead of his brother
Theo in sixth, with Dexter classified seventh.

1:10 Buggies B final
It was decided to put all the 2WD buggies together in the B final alongside Phil Jefferies who was running 4WD. Therefore, Andy East and Paul Bellinger
who were both running 2WD and qualified in the A final, were placed first and second in the B final. The re-shuffled B final got underway with Andy leading away from pole position, putting in some consistent 9 second laps at the start of the race. Phil Jefferies got off to a flying start and jumped
from grid slot four to second in the race. Third place was taken by Justin Hayes until lap 4 when Paul Bellinger made his way past followed by Chris Condon. Andy continued to slowly move away at the front with Phil in second who was maintaining a small gap to the 2WD squabble behind. On lap 7 Chris passed Paul for third, then on lap 10 Justin moved through to claim fourth. Paul regained his composure and by lap 12 had retaken fourth and set after Chris in third. Andy took the B final win with 32 laps 300.5 followed by Phil in second on 30 /304.05. The battle for third was won by Paul who managed to pass Chris on lap 18 and hold his position to the line. Chris ended fourth with 29 laps with Justin finishing fifth on 28 laps.

1:10 Buggies A final
The last race of the day and the final race of the indoor series was the Off Road Buggy A final and as always there was very little to separate the top buggy racers. Pole man Kristian Gibbs and second place qualifier James Crockart traded fastest laps over the opening half of the race with Neil Parrott in third ready to pounce if the top 2 made any mistakes. Anthony French was battling for fourth position with Kevin Fenn and Ben Chester - it was Ben's first race on the polished floor track and he was starting to show some good speed - dropping into low 9 second and high 8 second lap times. Unfortunately Matt Sadler had transponder issues in the final and his laps weren't counted. On lap 15 Anthony got past Ben for fourth and at the half way point the order was Kristian, James, Neil, Anthony, Ben, Kevin and Darren Evans running his Schumacher buggy for the first time at the hall. In the closing laps of the final James had managed to reduce the gap to Kristian in the lead but just couldn't quite close to within striking distance. Kristian held his nerve to take the A final win with 33 laps / 300.35, 3 seconds ahead of James in second. There was a one lap gap back to Neil in third on 32 / 309.23 with Anthony French 1 lap back in fourth on 31 / 308.60. Ben Chester managed 30 laps / 308.44 to claim fifth at his first meeting followed by Kevin in sixth and Darren in seventh with the
unlucky matt Sadler being classified eighth.

PRESENTATIONS

Club Chairman Paul Bellinger presented the trophies to the top 3 in all the classes and also "top 2WD" and "Top junior girl" and club secretary Craig Woods handed out the laminated certificates to the top 10 class finishers. We have some excellent photos from the presentation on the CMCC facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/photo.ph...8887932128&type=1&theater - worth a visit just to see Ashley Roats photo!

RAFFLE PRIZES

We were delighted to be joined by John Russel from Team Serpent to help with the big end-of-season prize draw - with prizes including (amongst others) lipo packs, bodyshells, brushless motors, off road & on-road tyres and of course the very impressive Serpent 411 touring car top prize! With most of the assembled drivers clutching their raffle tickets and keeping fingers crossed, the draw got underway starting with the Serpent 411 touring car top prize. The lucky winner was George Fairweather who unfortunately wasn't attending the last round to receive his prize but will no doubt be seen trackside with his new Serpent 411 soon! Other winners included Ashley Roat, Charlie Pryke, Matt Barton, Kristian Gibbs, Matt Sadler, Emma Bellinger, Sam Bradshaw and Tobie/Dexter Manser - and i'm sure there were a few more! A fun way to end the series and many thanks to all who bought tickets and contributed prizes towards the draw.

I would just like to round off my reports with a few thankyou's. As always thanks to all the drivers who raced and leant a helping hand in the series - you all helped make this a competitive & fun series with a good atmosphere at all the rounds - we hope to see as many of you as possible trackside battling it out for the CMCC summer championship trophies! A big thankyou to the CMCC committee - Paul B, Craig Woods, Vince Graver and Franck D who helped set up the track, pit area & computer at each round and did all the organisational and promotional work for the series - we all know the effort and time that is needed to run these events and appreciate all your efforts. Lastly - many thanks to Abby who helped us out at every round and put up with us all throughout the series!

That's it from me - see you all trackside!
