Nitro Revisited

Ok chaps after blowing up £170 of LRP speedo on my last outing, I have decided to  invest in another nitro !! more appropriate for the damper/wetter months ahead, not sure what to go for, Xray NT1 seems quite popular, with the addition of Paul & Craig now running NT1’s. Second hand examples are as rare as hens teeth. So what shops are offering the best deals. Help and advice on this project would be appreciated
Mr.B

Got mine from Demon,£269 i think thats about the cheapest you'll find it advertised in UK.
Give him a ring Julian,i've had nothing but great service from him.
Craig and Tim just got theirs from A1 but i dont know how much they paid?
Toby now has one as well, but again i dont know what he paid or where from?
What engine you gonna get? A screamer like craigs GRP?
Paul.

another one turns to the dark side

I've brought a fair few bits from demon and have to say the service is brilliant ,i ordered some bits yesterday at 3.30pm and it was here this morning

Best Regards Pete.
Craig.Woods

Julian - Pop into A1, they should be able to sort something out for you .
Ashers

Hi Jules be pleased to see you back with the proper racers, and what is wrong with the NTC3 then, or do you just fancy spending loads of dosh.
Regards Ash
BallisticMissile

being devils advocate.....

how about following the likes of ryk and going mugen?
ast

yea the mugen is great

WOT ABOUT ME PETE ?

I've got a SERPENT, although off the road at the moment, may be back
soon, but don't hold your breathe.

Paul, I have been in touch with nick at Demon power products, he informed me that the NT1 is no longer available he seems to think that Xray will be introducing a new nitro TC shortly. Have you heard any thing that backs this up. By the way I shall be using a JP fx .12 T-03 engine & pipe. What are you using in the way of servos & receiver battery
Cheers Julian.
Mr.B

Hmmmmm,a new NT1.There has been no mention of it on the Xray forums yet and rumors normally start on there a couple of months before anything is announced(And A1's got Tims one in only 2 weeks ago?).Although it is around this time of year that they revise things.Take last year for example they re-badged it the NT1 '08 and the only difference was that it came with front UJ's.
I would suggest that at least one prototype would have been seen at a big meeting somewhere in the world?
In my opinion i'd see if i could find some shop with an '08 in stock, because even if they revise it it's not going to be radically different and with all the other NT1's in the club spares are quite accessible.

I'm using a Futaba BLS 451 for brake/throttle,and as it happens i have a new one on Ebay finishing tomorrow http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAP...sPageName=STRK:MESE:IT&ih=002
And a Futaba 9551 for steering. Both are metal geared and good combination of speed and torque.
I'm using a 1700 lipo as a receiver pack with a 6v regulator.I did all of last weeks meeting without charging it!About 35/40 mins of runtime.
Got it from Hong Kong @about £25 in total. Can find you the link if you want. However i would say that i had to slightly modify it to get it in.

Oh and i'm running a Picco P1-R with a K Factory pipe, and in reserve i have a GRP same as Craigy's but i'm a bit scared to take it out of its box.I'll save it for a special occasion.

Paul.

i reckon, if its still winning everywhere, then y wud they need to have a prototype replacement in the pipeline?

it's not like electric even for xray i guess, no new chassis every 6 months lol

Hello Julian,
Nice to hear you might be joining us soon with your nitro.

Tim, Pete and I have been to a number of tracks this year and seen pretty much all the top cars being driven by some good drivers on rubber tyres. Looking back over the year, the best car i've seen would be the Serpent - they generally seem to carry good corner speed and soak up the bumps very well.

In comparison to a lot of nitro tracks our CMCC track is quite small and quite bumpy, so you'll need a car quick out of the corners, good on brakes and handles the bumps well. Of course, a lot of depends how you set the cars up - ratios, clutch etc etc, but generally speaking the nicest looking out on track i think have been the Serpents.

The Mugen is a lovely kit and a bargain if you compare the MTX4 to all the others, my critisisms of the kit are 1/ The rear end over bumps (but this could be my setup) 2/ How tight everything is to fit in (engine and linkage is a pain in the neck depending on what engine you're trying to put in) and 3/ No water proof electric box (easy to cure - fit an NT1 box)

The Team Magic has always looked good at Colchester and the rubber national champion uses one, so maybe one to consider if you want to be different to the crowd.

People call the Xray a kyo-gen - half Kyosho and half Mugen, but that's not a bad thing. They do seem to have an issue with their pivot balls working loose, which could be frustrating after you've set the thing up. XRay are also on a steeper learning curve than Serpent, Kyosho and Mugen as they are the new boys at 1:10 IC. They also have a habit of bringing out new kits very regularly....

Kyosho are another manufacturer at the top of scale IC, but i've never seen them looking great over the bumps and finding spares and setups will be difficult. They would be at the bottom of my list.

To be honest, all the modern kits are so similar you have to look twice at all the cars in the pit to see which is which  so, i guess, more depends on your setup ability than what car you go for.

Best of luck Julian, i look forward to seeing what you end up with.

i was sheep and followed the crowd and got a NT1. more to the fact that spares are easy to get hold off and more people who have them more chance you have to get a good set up.

Also me and craigy want to do the nationals next year so if we have the same cars it makes set ups and repairs easier

but i love nitro and the NT1 is a good car but ryk is right it doesnt soak the bumps like the serpent but then ours is a bump track and most nationals are smoother

Hmmm, dont have any problem with mine?
I'm using 30wt oil and 3 hole pistons,drilled out to 1.2mm.
2.8 springs on front and 2.6 on rear.
Paul.

yeah but when your flying through the air you dont really notice it much

Ok, I would like to thank every one for there thoughts and views on what nitro car I should go for, I have decided on an Xray NT1 seems the only sensible choice, with so many club members using them, advice and setup tips shouldn’t be a problem.
Thanks again, Julian.

speak to craig, brimmers and co about the shiny red gubbins they're all running, as uv always been one for having shiny aluminium everything on whatever car ur using
Craig.Woods

for my opinion do not get the aluminuim shock tower mounts  (f&r) as i have noticed the rear ones lean the shocktower and also in the event of high impact aluminuim does not flex but will rip the threads out of bulkheads easier ....

do not use the full stiff engine mount setup if using aftermarket kit parts.

stock up on diff o rings

kit springs are for foam setups ( front 33lb rear 28lbs)

get the hard foam bumper

Hi guys, i'm new to the club and in the middle of building my nt1. I'm just building the clutch setup. My engine is the sts d3r. I am having problems with taking the collar off so i can add another shim to adjust the flywheel gap. Any tips so I can use to take the collar off. The collar was already on the engine.
Craig.Woods

Errrr... i think Mr.B used a small flat screw driver in the small slot when he was playing with my engine.. Corrrect me if im wrong...

welcome to the forums and nt1's ask away
Cimmynt1

Okay. Cheers for the reply. I'll try that.
Cimmynt1

cheers guys, that has worked I used the blade of a small kitchen knife. Just finishing building the shocks and that's all done!!!
Mr.B

When do you expect to give it  a maiden outing?
Paul.
Cimmynt1

Hopefully today!!! Just need to find a large carpark! I also wanted to know what wet tyres to purchase? Also will there be any nitro on Sunday or is it just electric?
Mr.B

No club racing for this week i'm afraid due to us hosting a round of the STCC,but its definately worth coming along for a look.
There are some really quick drivers present and its a joy just to watch some of the racing.
Back to normal next sunday,28th.
Paul.
