Hi all, well Brookland is over, good track, none of us had engines blown up which was nice. I had a crap day didnt finish a heat and qualified last so will forget that, Tobie did better qualified around sixth in the B final then came second in the final, well done Tobie. Ryk and Pete qualified 2nd and 4th in the A final, Pete had a tyre shred on the rear after about 10 laps and then with a cold replacement tyre fitted he had a comming off which lost him a steering link, race over for Pete. Ryk drove well from his second place on the grid and at one point took and held the lead then on the last pit stop he lost the lead and ran second to the end I think Ryk and first place man were a lap up on third place. a good race for Ryk after all the bad luck he has had well done. As usual it was a mixed bag of results for the CMCC nitro-boys-on-tour (one day we'll all have a good meeting ) Brooklands has the longest straight we race on all year and seeing the cars at full speed is a hell of a site.
Tobie, Pete and I had a full day of practice on Saturday and Ash dusted his car off and put in a few laps. After a successful test session we all retired back to camp in a positive mood for Sundays race.
An enjoyable night was had by all at the local 15th century pub (100 meters from the track with good ale and large portions of grub!) The rain during the night left the track damp for the morning practice session, but it dried up quickly when the sun appeared and track conditions improved nicely during the day.
As always the qualifying was full of incident - Ash had a wishbone ripped out in one qualifier and servo issues in another, I wrecked ANOTHER spur gear in one round and ran out of fuel in another (my best qually) Tobie and Pete were in my qualifying heat, so i didn't see their rounds, but Tobie wasn't finding it easy to get in his rhythum. Pete can fill you in on details, but he ended happy with his best ever qualifying position.
Qualifying:
Ryk 2nd
Pete 4th
Tobie 16th
Ash 17th
B final
Ash never really got his car working right all day - even after being on a setup board - and decided to opt out of his final, this left Tobie flying the flag for CMCC. It was looking to be a good battle between Tobie, Lee and Gyan for the top 3 honours (Tobie managing to post 5 of the top 10 fastest lap times in the final) but mechanical issues took Lee and Tobie out of the running for the win. Tobie battled on well with 2WD after stripping his front belt and managed to hold on to 2nd place and bring home some silverware - well done Tobie.
A final
As I was in the same race as Peter, I didn't see any of his race, but unfortunately, it was Pete who had the bad luck in this final. He ended up retiring early after one of his Sorex tyres exploded and then had his stranded car collected by the oncoming traffic. Unlucky Peter.
The final for me was a great battle between Michael Ball and Joe Keaveney - all three of us circulating at a similar speed and all of us holding the lead at some point during the first fuel stint. When Joe and Michael dropped in for their first fuel stop at 5 minutes I realsied that I had a great chance of the win, as I was on 6 minute re-fueling and would need one less stop! All was going well until lap 60 when the strategy slightly back-fired and I had an engine cut with no fuel left in the tank:doh: Whilst pushing hard to make up for lost time I collected a stranded car and smashed up my front shock absorber, but managed to bring the car home on three shocks and finish second.
Thanks to Tobie and Ash for pitting for me and Pete for the lift down there
NOTE TO ALL STCC RACERS: I can highly recommend the "all day breakfast" at the club cafe - £4.50 with free top-ups of tea. Yummy.

Hi All
Good luck to everyone from our club doing Brooklands,i dont know how your electric cars get on with the back straight, nitro is magic, this track is one of the tracks i like the most, just dont breakdown at the end of the back straight and get collected, you wont have much of a car left, not that you can choose where to breakdown,we hope you dont, but the very best of luck to you all, have a great days racing.
Pete.
