As some of you may know, Leon and I took some time today to get a bit of practice in on the southend track, and came up with a few findings...
the lethal sweeper off the back straight has been widened, but don't be fooled you STILL cant take a tight line as the surface is very uneven where the curb's been moved inward. I found this out to my own cost, as I tried to push a bit hard, and hit a nasty bump which sent the car flying across the track, first into the inside, then against the outside wall, breaking a front C-Hub
also the track surface, particularly with the speed of these new brushlesses AND the lower weight limit (and more heat from a later slot this year) its a lot more noticeable how bumpy it is, and the irritating thing is that the bumps alone aren't a problem, it's the sudden grip that the car can find which comes and goes with every ripple in the surface.
so what's the solution? some rear anti-squat work's a treat to iron out some of those bumps, and roll bars can reduce the overall grip of the car, to prevent the sudden changes in direction (although this doesnt make for the smoothest potential ride)
the cars tend to push a little mid corner, so loosen the rear diff a tad if you suffer this in practice.
an alternative way to iron out bumps and reduce the chance of sudden traction changes is to raise the cars rollcentre, possibly along with the anti-squat, although i didnt get a chance to try this out, so not 100% certain it will work... but if over-gripping's a bit of an issue in places, then maybe fresh rubber isn't the best bet......?
